Steel Challenge League
Recurring Weekly on Thursdays in March, April, and June
The Heartland Steel Challenge League is a recurring action shooting competition focused on speed, accuracy, and consistency with handgun platforms. The league provides a structured and welcoming environment where shooters of all skill levels can practice their marksmanship and compete in a fast-paced shooting sport.
Steel Challenge is a speed shooting discipline governed by the Steel Challenge Shooting Association (SCSA). The format consists of eight standardized stages featuring steel targets in three sizes: small circular (10-inch), large circular (12-inch), and rectangular (18×24-inch) plates. Each stage challenges competitors to engage the targets as quickly and accurately as possible from a designated shooting position.
Competitors are scored solely on the time it takes them to complete each stage. After all stages are completed, the shooter with the lowest overall combined time is declared the match winner.
The Heartland Steel Challenge League offers a fun and competitive setting where shooters can develop speed, refine accuracy, and track their progress over a series of matches while participating in one of the most popular action shooting formats in the country.
There will be 3 stages with 5 steel targets on each. Shooters get five runs on each stage. Each competitor shoots each stage five times, with their slowest run dropped. The counting times are totaled for their stage score, and the 4 stage scores are added together to establish the competitor’s match score.
